From Santiago, Chile, we took the 4-hour flight to Easter Island. It is incredible that it only takes 4 hours to reach the most remote, inhabited, island on earth. It has always been a dream of ours to visit and learn more about Rapa Nui. This is a recap video of our adventures backpacking Easter Island.
Since our childhoods, we have heard stories of cannibalistic islanders who were so short-sighted that their obsession for statues led to their demise and extinction. We learned that this wasn’t one hundred percent true. However, the history of the island and the iconic Moai head statues still remain a mystery. What we know today has been pieced together from songs, stories and educated guesses.
With only 5 days on the island, we crammed as much in as possible by hiking, cycling and driving around. We got up early for dramatic sunrises and stayed up late for beautiful sunsets. Here is a short video of our time on the island.
