To the frustration of Uruguayans, the country is often overlooked and thought of as a suburb of Buenos Aires. In truth the country is filled with pristine beaches that Buenos Aires can only dream about and which steals many of it residents due to its popular weekend and holiday resorts.

Only a short ferry ride from Argentina or a route from Brazil to Argentina, Uruguay is easily accessible. We decided to make it a detour on our route south from Paraguay. So wether you want to relax on the beaches of Punta del Diablo, eat asado and celebrate carnival in Montevideo or explore the historical centre of Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay can be what ever you make of it. Uruguay may be one of those countries that we will have to return to and explore more.

Check out our articles during our short stay in the country and read about why we had to leave earlier than planned.
