To the frustration of Uruguayans, the country is often overlooked and thought of as a suburb of Buenos Aires. In truth, the country is filled with pristine beaches that Buenos Aires can only dream about and which steal many of its residents due to its popular weekend and holiday resorts.
Only a short ferry ride from Argentina or a route from Brazil to Argentina, Uruguay is easily accessible. We decided to make it a detour on our route south from Paraguay. So whether you want to relax on the beaches of Punta del Diablo, eat asado and celebrate carnival in Montevideo or explore the historical centre of Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay can be whatever you make of it. Uruguay may be one of those countries that we will have to return to and explore more.
