Crater of Maragua Full Day

If you don’t have the time to walk the full Maragua crater trail on your own, then this full day tour from Sucre, is a good compromise.
Your guide will drive you to the chapel of Chataquila, where you will start your hike. It first follow an ancient Inca trail with incredible view over the Cordillera de los Frailes. Once in Chaunaca, you’ll be picked up by another vehicle to go to the Ravelo River for a break and an optional swim.
Afterwards, the journey will continue to the Maragua Crater via the “Devil’s Throat” rock formation and the famous dinosaur footprints.
Throughout the day, your guide will share insights into the local culture, flora, and fauna.

The trail itself (best known as the Pre-Hispanic trail as it far pre-dates the Incas) is a trail not-to-be missed from the lovely capital of Sucre. The Maragua Crater is a fascinating landscape. I can heartily recommend Turismo Sucre and their excellent and knowledgeable guide Jose Herrera. It was an excellent day learning a lot about the fusion of native religion with catholicism, paleontology, different cultures, geology, and regional history.

Amazing tour! We walked all the way up in the mine. It was a lot of fun and a great experience to watch the workers in action. Sort of sad to see the conditions they are working in, so make sure you are able to stand that. Would definitely recommend this. It is absolutely a must do!
