The Camargue

From Arles, there are multiple roads that fan out through the Camargue Regional Nature Park, a protected area of over 500 square kilometres of wetlands, marshes, and rivers. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including flamingos, bulls, horses, and sheep, many of which you will see from the main road.
Admire the stunning white horses on properties around the wetlands, a symbol of the Camargue’s equestrian tradition. Keep an eye out for the numerous flocks of flamingos that make their home in the salt pans. You will also undoubtedly see the black bulls that are well-known in this area. You can explore the park on your own by foot, bike, boat, or car or there are multiple 4×4 jeep tours where you can learn from a knowledgeable guide.
One of the best scenic routes is the 45-minute drive to the charming seaside town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, with its gorgeous beaches, cafes, and shops. If possible, visit the Marché Provencal held on Mondays and Fridays for delicious food and a flea market. There are plenty of great hotels and campgrounds if you want to stay for a few days and enjoy the area fully.

Les Corniches can be easily explored on your own, either by driving your own car or by hiring one. The roads are well-maintained with clear signage.
The main stops along Les Corniches include the charming villages of Èze, La Turbie, and Villefranche-sur-Mer. Each location is a charming town where you’ll find unique glimpses into the rich cultural heritage of the region.
As you wind through these coastal roads, you’ll encounter breathtaking seaside vistas, rugged cliffs, and azure waters. In Èze, don’t miss the enchanting Jardin Exotique (Exotic Garden) and gorgeous medieval streets. La Turbie is famous for its impressive Roman monument, the Trophy of Augustus. Bordeaux to Lourdes
A road trip through southern France from Bordeaux to Lourdes, via Biscarosse and Bayonne, is the perfect way to explore the beauty of this region. The total driving time is at least 5 hours, but it’s recommended to plan 3-4 days for the full experience. The distance you will be travelling is 350 kilometres.
The best way to do this trip is to get a rental car and go at your own pace. Bordeaux itself has plenty of attractions, most notably the beautiful city centre with its many restaurants, shops, and culture. Close by you also find the quaint little town of Saint Emilion, which definitely deserves a visit when in the area, especially if you want to try some of the region’s best wines.
Biscarosse makes for a perfect beach destination and is known for its good surfing opportunities. But there are also plenty of camping options around if you feel like getting back to nature. Don’t forget to swing by Bayonne as well, where the famous Cathédrale Sainte-Marie awaits your visit.
Finally, Lourdes is the perfect place to end your trip. This small city is packed with amazing architecture and stunning landscapes that will surely leave a lasting impression.
